This week (15-21 November) is National Respect for Shopworkers Week, which aims to draw attention to the shocking abuse that shopworkers up and down the country face on a daily basis.

USDAW is encouraging shoppers to keep their cool and respect shopworkers whilst shopping over the festive period, and Birmingham Labour is proud to support this campaign.

Shopworkers, like all other key workers, have helped to keep our country going over the past two years. Shockingly, research shows that almost 9 in 10 shopworkers were verbally abused last year, and 60% of them reported threats of physical violence. This is not acceptable.

Many of us will soon be starting our Christmas shopping, and the festive period can be particularly difficult for shopworkers. So, whether you’re visiting Birmingham City Centre, or your local high street, please show your gratitude to our shopworkers and remember that abuse in not part of their job.

You can help to spread the word on the campaign by sharing Birmingham Labour’s message on Twitter or on Facebook.
