Jack Dromey, MP for Birmingham Erdington, has tabled an Early Day Motion in the House of Commons which if implemented would secure £44 million annual funding that West Midlands Police is currently missing out on.

West Midlands Police is not receiving the proportion of funding the Home Office’s own indicators state it should receive and Jack Dromey MP is calling on the government to implement their own plans, ensuring the Force’s funding matches its needs. He is seeking cross party support for the measures to support West Midlands Police.

Lower crime, lower risk areas like Surrey are currently receiving more funding in relation to their population and level of crime, at the expense of the West Midlands.

Information obtained by Jack Dromey highlights what £44 million would mean for West Midlands Police. It shows that if West Midlands Police receives the additional funding the force is owed, it could:

• Increase officer numbers from 6,500 to 7,000 costing £25 million annually
• Increase PCSO numbers by 100 costing £3.5 million annually
• Use £6.5 million to hire more specialist staff
• £5 million to cover estates running costs of 24 planned building closures
• £4 million annually to accelerate technology and estates improvements
