Birmingham Labour

Green Waste Collection

Green_Bin.jpgLike everyone else living in Birmingham we believe that the green waste collection is an important service and we would love to keep it free.

We understand the concerns being expressed across the city.

The Tory/LibDem Government has slashed grants to Birmingham – and the money we have to spend has fallen by a massive two thirds. Imagine if you earned £18,000 per year and your wages were cut to £6,000. Wouldn’t that change everything about your life?

Well, that’s what’s happened to Birmingham.

This means that Birmingham has to lose many valued services – like free green waste collection.

The bitter alternative would be to cut precious services for vulnerable elderly people and for local children most at risk.

We know that there have been problems with implementation and we are working to get it right.

These new charges are happening because of Cameron and Clegg’s decisions in Westminster – faithfully supported by local Tory and Lib Dem Councillors and MPs – the very people who are now crying crocodile tears about cuts. They support the Government cuts – then pretend that Labour is to blame.

For some people, they can afford to pay the £33 for this extra service, for some not but it works out at about £1 extra per week. In my humble opinion getting rid of grass, leaves and other garden clippings in a big wheelie bin from your doorstep is value for money!

Does not really answer my question. I noticed the Gay Pride Parade went on, funded by my Council Tax in part. When do I get my share of the funds available. Like all parliamentarians and councillors, as long as the gravy train keeps rolling, you`re happy. Cloud cuckoo land springs to mind.
